I particularly liked being able to easily stand the gun on its end. The solder work, and then the shrinking of insulating heat shrink around the connection was, of necessity, done in very close proximity to the window glass and frame. The first job I used this on was in relation to multiple replacement of magnetic window sensors in my house's burglar alarm system. The only negative that I found was the operation of the slide trigger to operate the gun. Through the use of the window protection attachment this was successfully achieved without damage to the glass or frame. The gun is extremely powerful, and I envisage using it for many other tasks over the coming years (I hope). I found that to be a little awkward - hopefully I will become accustomed to it as I use the gun more. Overall good value for money - I'm pleased with the package.
I was concerned that the manufacturer was including all of the scrapers to make up for an inferior heat gun, but I am pleased with all of it. Strangely enough, while the box shows the temp in Fahrenheit, the gun itself has only Celsius degrees. Which might matter to someone who wanted a precise temperature, but I am a Fahrenheit gal scraping paint, and as long as I keep the gun far enough away from the wood, leaving it at its highest setting works for me. I can't imagine that a pricier gun could work any better.
I've used this heat gun extensively for paint stripping since I got it. It works very well and the adjustable heat and blower are great. My only quibble is that my unit did not come with any instructions, so the uses to which the myriad attachments can be put remain a mystery.
I plan to use it for some paint stripping soon, and expect that it will work just fine.Just a word on the heat regulation, the knob is a continuously variable sweep, but the flickering lights in my garage show otherwise. I bought this unit on the strength of the reviews here, and it has met my expectations for an inexpensive heat gun with a nice range of accessories and features. While the gun is on less than full throttle, the heat is regulated by pulsing the current running to the heating element. I have only used it for two projects so far, gently thawing an outside water spigot when it froze this past winter, and using it as a heat source in a small heating chamber used to sweat cosmoline out of a military surplus rifle stock. I was able to regulate the amount of heat produced rather well for both applications. This pulsing caused the lights in my garage to flicker in time to the pulses. There were definite discreet steps between settings, even though the heat control dial feels continuous.
I have the Black & Decker C800620 version of this heat gun. From looking at the photos and attachments and all the specs of both guns, I've come to the conclusion that they are exactly the same product, except this one has been painted blue, re-branded, and stripped of the B&D 2-year warranty.Someone correct me if I'm wrong but im fully convinced they are the same product. They are both offered on amazon, with the B&D inexplicably being cheaper at the moment. My B&D is a good product for what i need it for (mainly DIY PCB reflows for gaming consoles and laptops) so Im not knocking this one in any way, but if this product is simply B&D's attempt to lower their warranty service costs, then thats pretty lame.This product is worth checking out of the other one is sold out.
